The ESD Association (ESDA) has released a revised version of its standard covering the design and implementation of an ESD control program.
The revised standard, ANSI/ESD S20/20-2007, covers the requirements necessary to design, establish, implement and maintain and ESD control program to protect electrical or electronic parts and equipment susceptible to ESD damage from discharges greater than 100 volts.
According to the ESDA newsletter, Threshold, the 2007 revision of the standard differs from the 1999 version as follows:
- The recommended limits in the 1999 version now represent the required limits;
- The guidance sections formerly found in the standard have been removed, with information on process design, controls and materials now in TR 20.20 (“ESD Handbook”);
- Compliance verification procedures are now specified, and can be found in TR53 (“Compliance Verification of ESD Protective Equipment and Materials”).
Copies of ANSI/ESD S20/20-2007 are available through the ESDA at www.esda.org.
