Here is a look back at some of the topics we’ve covered in the NewsBreaks section of Conformity during the past decade:
One year ago FCC Requires Retailers’ Full Disclosures for Analog TVs “The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has implemented regulations that require retailers to fully inform consumers who purchase televisions equipped only with analog tuners of their potential limitations following the nationwide conversion to digital television broadcasting in 2009. The Order requires retailers to provide a specific alert message to consumers who purchase televisions with analog-only tuners. The required Consumer Alert advises customers that the television will require a converter box to receive over-the-air broadcasts after February 17, 2009, the date of the transition to digital broadcasting.” Conformity, July 2007
Five years ago FCC Investigates Broadband Over Powerline Services “The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has begun an investigation into the feasibility of utilizing existing electrical power lines to provide Internet and broadband services to consumers. In a Notice of Inquiry issued in late April, the Commission has requested public comments on the current state of BPL technology, as well as test data from BPL experimental sites. The Commission is also seeking comments on changes that may be needed to the technical rules contained in its Part 15 regulations to foster the development of BPL technology.” Conformity, July 2003
Ten years ago FCC Adopts TV Blocking Capability Provisions “The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has formerly adopted regulations that require manufacturers of most television receivers to incorporate TV signal blocking capability into their products. The blocking technology provisions adopted by the FCC were mandated under the Parental Choice in Television Programming requirements of the Telecommunications Act of 1996. These requirements were intended to provide parents ‘with timely information about the nature of upcoming video programming and with the technological tools that allow them to block violent, sexual, or other programming that they believe harmful to children.’” Conformity, July 1998
