Here is a look back at some of the topics we’ve covered in the NewsBreaks section of Conformity during the past decade:

Commission Waives USF Contributions on Calls from Overseas Military Personnel
“The Commissioners of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) have
ordered that certain contribution requirements will no longer be
applied to calls places by Armed Forces personnel stationed outside of
the United States to family members or friends at home. Issued in
January, the Commissions’ Order will eliminate Universal Service and
Telecommunications Relay Service contributions for calls made using
prepaid and post-paid calling cards, as well as for collect calls made
by military personnel.” Conformity, April 2007

Supreme Court Returns Spectrum to NextWave
“The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that regulators at the Federal
Communications Commission (FCC) illegally reclaimed portions of
wireless spectrum awarded to NextWave Telecom in the Commission’s
sweeping series of spectrum auctions held in 1996. The 8 to 1 decision
issued in January by the nation’s highest court returns to NextWave 63
wireless spectrum licenses, for which the company originally bid a
reported $4.7 billion. Industry officials put the current value of
those licenses at around $6.5 billion.” Conformity, April 2003

New Studies Link EMFs to Cancer
“A team of U.S. researchers have found what they believe may be the
causal link between electromagnetic fields (EMFs) and cancer. According
to a recent report in Science News, scientists at the Wayne Hughes
Institute in St. Paul, Minnesota have identified an enzyme that, when
exposed to magnetic fields, may send the wrong “data” to cellular DNA.
It is this incorrect data, they believe, that may result in the
production of cancer cells in the body, thereby providing the missing
link between EMFs and cancer.” Conformity, April 1998
